Here’s one from the vault … Relational Caffeine is a magazine made up almost completely by student-generated content. Every year one of the Communication Studies classes at CSU Stanislaus creates a magazine from the ground up. I’ve always been interested in publication design so when the student’s faculty adviser asked for my help, I jumped at the opportunity. Working with students was rewarding in and of itself. It feels good when you can offer insight and creative support, anything from how to engage visual communication projects to how to prepare files for press. Even so, I found it was me who was getting schooled most of the time. The articles were full of relevant concerns to the college-age audience and I learned a lot from the content and the interactions I had with the editors.
